DIRECTOR’S

STATEMENT

This film was made specifically for my application to the University of Texas at Austin’s MFA Film and Media Production program…

After a 2 year hiatus from directing, I possessed no recent film required for my application to grad school. Having only made shorts in my undergrad, I knew those films were not reflective of the storyteller I had grown into during that 2 year dry spell. I felt further along my journey than my work would have suggested. With an impending application deadline, I called some of my collaborators and completed this short start to finish in only 3 weeks just in time.

My intention with this one take short was to show a committee that I could place an emphasis on story and performance, that not only was I interested in these aspects of filmmaking but they would be a guiding light for my work in a three year director’s program. We shot a single of this scene sixteen times- this was take six.
